Portraits

My favorite subjects always include portraits. I never get tired creating tiny people...and no, I don't have a "god complex".

Portraits I - Four views of a Don Vanderpot vessel.  Moses with the 10 Commandments along with a portrait of a mother and father and an Oriental model.

Portraits II - A beautiful Wishram Bride on display along with H. Home and a piece that was done for him.  Red Wing, and Jirayr Zorthian also abide here.  Not to mention a couple of other beautiful pieces.

Portraits III - See Mount Rushmore on Ivory!  Along with Carl Wilson,  Willie Mosconi and a couple of other surprises.

Portraits IV - Featuring a portrait of Elvis, a stunning wedding ring set, and many more beautiful pieces!

Portraits V - A portrait of John Lennon, some very interesting pistol grips, Airi Kulpa and many other fine pieces!

Portraits VI - You have to see this tiny miniature button!  A few other pieces to keep your interest as well!

Though you might have to find these in a used book store now, you may want to check out Tom Clancy's "Net Force" series novels - "Point of Impact" and "Cybernation". Written by Steve Perry, they feature a scrimshander named Bob Hergert. Just a coincidence?.....I don't think so.

To get an idea how much a commissioned project might cost, calculate the number of square inches of scrimshaw. Then figure a price of $150 -$200 per square inch. This assumes the model or design is ready or available. Exceptions to this pricing include miniature knives, which must be estimated individually. Cost of ivory is separate. Those who would like a quality knife for a moderate cost might consider the David Boye Prophet Companion. Finished knives with scrimshaw typically run between $600 and $800.
